Mediaweek reported last week that MSN is going to limit it’s veiwers pre-roll exposure to what it had currently been. I don’t think it goes far enough but it sure is a step in the right direction.

Cable companies are looking to standardize interactive ads that are offered across cable systems. This makes a lot of sense everyone I would think. Cable companies play a vital role in the content delivery of what we watch. It’s in their interest to allow content providers - all those networks - to offer standardized ad units so ad agencies and their clients - the ones who are paying for the show to be placed on cable - create and deliver ads to us - the audience.

Cox has agreed to interfere with our decision making process now as they’ve agreed to carry shows from ABC and NBC on their Video On Demand service post a show’s initial run. ABC has chosen to run it’s top rated series (Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Desperate Housewives), while NBC will be showing it promising but not quite fulfilling potential shows such as 30 Rock and Friday Night Lights.

I am a believer in absolutely personal responsibility. Stupid is as stupid does, said Forrest’s mom. However, children are different.
“Social networking sites like Facebook have wooed millions of users with their easy format for keeping in touch but left them navigating the pitfalls of interacting online is it really private?” Via DAWN Group
Where does the responsibility lie: state, federal, parents, children, or with Facebook itself? Or, is it shared? What should it look like? I think if you’re 16, you should know well enough to not make an ass of yourself unless you’re willing to live with the blow-back.

Steve Jobs is perceived as bilking the early-adopters of the iPhone. Now, he is freezing out all of the iPhone users who have done any sort of hack. This will not be seen as smart, this will be seen as a royal “fuck you” to his very own, and innovative, user base.
“Apple Inc. has issued a software update that creates problems for iPhones modified to work with a cellular carrier other than AT&T Inc. and disables at least some unofficial programs installed on other iPhone handsets.” Via Chicago Tribune
The iPhone itself is a hearts and minds campaign. The people who are doing the hacking are the leaders. They’re the most exciting. They’re actually the future of Apple. Probably the folks Jobs should hire ASAP. Well, anyway, Mr. Jobs, remember that three strikes you’re out.

I really love Wordpress, both as the blogging software platform upon which we built Marketing Conversation and as the the free, powerful, and hosted alternative to Blogger’s Blogspot. I like it so much that I actually created a 45-minute video. Enjoy!

Interesting. I don’t know if I ever saw this Blogger’s Code of Conduct from our hero, Mr. Tim O’Reilly, the face of ORA. It looks pretty smashing to me. Via O’Reilly’s Radar by way of Robert Scoble on Web Pro News:

God Bless Howard Rheingold. I am proud to personally know a true futurist, over and over again. Back in 2002, Howard wrote Smart Mobs, a book that predicts what is going on online in response to the unrest in Burma. In this case, this is called a Flash Mob. The title of the article on Wired.com says it all: Revamped Microsoft Live Search Disappoints. And this it certainly does. Live Search is a rather sad attempt at replicating (and copying, only in looks and not in results) the search power of Google.
